IP Deny Manager  Print this Article

The IP Deny Manager feature allows you to block access to your site for one or more IP addresses. You can also ban fully qualified domain names (FQDNs).
An FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) is a name that uniquely defines a domain’s location. It is usually seen as host.example.com. with a trailing dot. For the purposes of cPanel, including a final dot is not necessary, but the domain name must contain at least 2 dots. FQDNs must be written in lowercase letters.

Deny an IP address

To deny access to an IP address or range of IP addresses:

  1. Enter the IP address or range in the IP Address or Domain field.
  2. Click Add.

You can enter IP addresses in any of five ways:

  • Single IP Address (Example: 10.9.8.333)
  • Range (Example: 10.9.8.3-10.5.3.40)
  • Implied Range (Example: 10.9.8.3-40)
  • CIDR Format (Example: 10.9.8.3/32)
  • Implied IP Address (Example: 10.)
Note: 10. as an implied IP address implies 10.*.*.*, where each * represents a positive whole number. If you enter 10., all IP addresses that begin with 10. will be blocked.

If you enter IP addresses directly to the .htaccess file, enter them in CIDR format only. Use of the range formats shown above as entries in the .htaccess file may cause problems. CIDR or "Classless Inter-Domain Routing" is a routing method that assigns each Internet user to a four-part IP address, with each part separated by a decimal, followed by a slash and a number between 0 and 32.

Current IP addresses being blocked

IP address ranges entered through IP Deny Manager are separated into subnets in CIDR format before the values are added to the .htaccess file. The interface will display blocked IP addresses and ranges in this notation.

For example, if you enter the range 208.74.124.96-208.74.124.128, the Current IP addresses being blocked: table will appear similar to:
